The difference is what happens after the test

Passing gives you a licence. This approach prepares you to use it.

Passing is one milestone. Lessons should also prepare you for your first solo drive, when your instructor, dual controls and familiar lesson structure are no longer there.

The TrueLane pathway is designed to build that independence from the start. You will practise unfamiliar situations, manage pressure, recognise your own risks, recover from mistakes and make thoughtful decisions without waiting for somebody else to tell you what to do.

The aim is not one impressive drive for an examiner. It is safer, more capable driving when nobody is watching.

What you can explore

One connected pathway. Your own pace.

Your lessons, progress and reflection are brought together around one personalised plan at £60 per hour.

01

Automatic driving lessons

Calm, personalised lessons that adapt to your experience, confidence and pace. Subjects are revisited when useful rather than ticked off and forgotten.

02

Practical-test preparation

Test readiness and any use of the TrueLane car are agreed separately. The learner books and pays the DVSA test fee.

03

The complete 13-stage syllabus

A connected pathway from first controls and observations through complex roads, independent journeys, mindset, test readiness and driving beyond the test.

04

Real-world driving experience

Town, rural and higher-speed roads; unfamiliar destinations; busy systems; independent planning and the situations you will genuinely meet around East Devon and Exeter.

05

Personal planning and reflection

Goals, confidence checks, self-assessment and coaching conversations help you understand your own driving—not simply copy the instructor’s answers.

06

Evidence-led test preparation

Your test is approached when varied, independent driving shows reliable readiness. A date does not dictate the learning; your development does.

What the investment is designed to build

Skills that remain valuable long after test day.

Calm control

Reliable routines that free attention for the road rather than overwhelming the learner.

Earlier awareness

Scanning, planning and hazard recognition that create time and safer options.

Independent judgement

Decisions based on evidence, not dependence on prompts or memorised routes.

Honest self-assessment

The ability to notice, reflect and adapt before a weakness becomes a serious risk.

Confidence with unfamiliar roads

Strategies for route changes, pressure, mistakes and situations that were not rehearsed.

A safer mindset

Awareness of how fatigue, emotion, passengers, distraction and time pressure affect behaviour.

The complete pathway

Thirteen stages.
One connected journey.

Rob uses a detailed learning resource alongside your lessons, with every stage and skill connected to your progress in TotalDrive.
